The "choice" aspect is really limited because the "tree" is very linear.

I think the tech tree in Civ is really poorly implemented. So I'm looking for a game that has really well thought out tech trees, where the gameplay can actually change significantly based on that kind of choice. There were some superprojects, but for the most part, after the first level of research, they were all incremental improvements on the baseline (+5 to diplomacy, etc). Going from Lasers I to Lasers II just feels like an unrewarding grind, not a strategic, meaningful choice. On the flip side, I bought Galactic Civilizations II and was pretty disappointed with the techs.

I feel like this really adds depth to both your strategic options and gives a lot of replayability, since you likely won't use every perk in a playthrough.

Which game has the best technology advancement perks out there? My favorite game of all time is Alpha Centauri, primarily because the majority of techs give you something unique, like a new way to move or a one-per-game secret project to build. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
